In the “Los Glaciares” national park, there is the gigantic Argentino Lake, where you can admire the spectacular glaciers of Perito Moreno and Upsala.

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina

Traveling to Argentina without seeing the Perito Moreno Glacier is like going to Paris and not visiting the Eiffel Tower. Or to be clearer, not seeing this wonder that our planet offers us is missing the journey. The scenery of this southern Patagonia, shared by Argentina and Chile, is among the most beautiful and wild landscapes in the world…

His Majesty Perito Moreno

I will help you to fully discover one of the wonders of our planet, the great “star” of Patagonia: the Perito Moreno glacier, which will undoubtedly accentuate your trip with a great moment. It’s not every day that we find ourselves facing a wall of ice 70 m high and almost 6 km long!

The glaciers of Patagonia all originate from the two North and South ice fields. These two ice fields are also located largely in Chile. There are more than fifty glaciers there, some flowing into lakes in Argentina and Chile, while in Chile others flow into the sea.

The Perito Moreno glacier is the best known of all, because it is easy to access and truly impressive. We could stay for hours and hours contemplating this giant mass of ice in perpetual motion: under its turquoise blue colors, the ice compresses and blocks break, falling fifty meters, all in a crash of an imposing force. Imagine being faced with a wall of ice, almost 5 km long and 80 meters high… all in a striking setting at the end of the world.

I advise you all to undertake a mini trekking on the Perito Moreno glacier or on any other glacier in Patagonia, to live a unique experience in the heart of this glacial mass. The Perito Moreno Glacier is still one of the few glaciers in the world that is expanding. Gaining a few centimeters per month, its front ends up forming a dam which isolates the waters of Brazo Rico, an arm of Lake Argentino.

In the northern part of the lake, it is possible to take a boat to meet the largest glacier in South of Argentinian Patagonia, the Upsala, 50 km long and 10 km wide. In summer, boats leave every morning from Puerto Bandera; the excursion lasts a whole day. Enchantment is guaranteed: surrounded on all sides by the snow-capped peaks and the intense blue of the icebergs, we sail on the pure waters of the lake to this extraordinary monument that is Upsala.
