Small northern Chile

- Small North -

This region of Chile is surely the least visited and the most ignored one. I myself had some time before travelling there as there were other places in Chile I felt more attracted to. This is the region in Chile where you can find astronomical observatories whose eyes look at the clearest skies, where you can swim in the same waters where penguins live, where sunny verdant valleys lie waiting to cultivate vines and also where many legends take place.

voyage petit nord chili
In this region of Chile, the desert gives place to the steppe; cactuses stand in columns as if guarding on the sides of the hills surrounded by an incredible landscape, while rivers meander towards the sea. The extraordinary starry sky attracts astronomers; and some highly equipped astronomical observatories offer visitors guided tours.

From Copiap, well-known city for its silver mines, you can easily get to Baha Inglesa (English Bay) where you will find quiet beaches or where you can even go on an excursion to the marvellous virgin lands of Tres Cruces National Park, located up in the mountains. In this park it can be seen the highest volcano in the world: Ojos del Salado volcano with 6,893 metres above sea level.

The seaside resort La Serena seduces you with its Andalusian atmosphere. Close to this colonial city we can indulge ourselves with the verdant Elqui Valley. The land here is favourable to cultivate grapevines and papayas and it is also a place that attracts esoteric groups, sun admirers and even people truly into UFOs who implore the mistic sky symbol which characterizes Elqui Valley. It is in this region where Pisco Sour is produced, a typical drink available all around Chile...

Patagonia in all seasons menu. For example, according to the climate, from Bariloche, in Patagonia Argentina, it is possible to go to Puerto Montt, in Chile, crossing successively three lakes by boat, as did the Jesuits and the first German settlers. I offer a tour that leads to the Pacific Ocean. It is quite long, but the beauty of the sites - forests, volcanoes and crystalline lakes - is such that it is worth to be carried. The Argentine side, cross the west arm of Nahuel Huapi and Lake Puerto Alegre and, the chilen side, Lake Todos los Santos. Moving from one lake to another by bus. This tour is feasible in all seasons, but in winter, it takes two days to reach Puerto Montt, stopping for one night at Peulla. We returned to Bariloche by air or by the same way, after a night in Puerto Montt. Borispatagonia is also responsible for visas to go to Chile and to book hotels. In Patagonia, winter and summer are tourist seasons. In summer, besides explore the surrounding, many activities are available: climbing, torrent fishing, sailing, horseback riding, hiking, rides, visits to Aciendas... In winter, the main activity is, of course, skiing, especially in July and August on the side of the Andes, but not only: snowshoe hikes, thematic tours, many walks to admire the beauty of Patagonia Argentina and Chile in this season, due a unique light, the warmth of the people of Patagonia... Just to talk about, I get goose bumps!
